The Award CeremonyThe Hackmatack Award ceremony is a celebration of reading and writing shared by the participating children and the nominated authors. Young readers from across the region join the authors of the nominated books to applaud the results of their reading and voting. Hackmatack is happy to announce that the 2011 Award Ceremony will be held in Halifax, Nova Scotia on May 13, 2011, from 10 to 12. The event is open to the public. Call (902) 424-3774 for details. Sixteen nominated authors participated in last year's ceremony, held on May 14, 2010 at Saint John High School in Saint John, New Brunswick. Readers from many participating communities cheered for the 2010 Hackmatack Award winners - Ingrid Lee with Dog Lost was the winner for the English fiction category, David Acer received the English Non-Fiction award for his book Gotcha!: 18 Amazing Ways to Freak Out Your Friends, Tina Landry, author of Le cimetière de Boisvert, was the winner for French Fiction and Annie Groovie received the award in French Non-Fiction for Délirons avec Léon - Spécial Olympiques. The ceremony was followed by book signings and a reception with the nominees and over 800 young readers.
